My imagination never stops. I'm just along for the ride. While working on an article about Xal (see the Encyclopedia Eternica - Politics/Xal) a line from the official overview intrigued me - "An enormous, intricate, never-mapped web of tunnels run through the mountains". The concept of the DarcRelms has been growing in the back of my mind ever since.

Cthulhi...?The DarcRelms would consist of a vast underground network of caverns similar in concept to AD&D's Underdark. There is certainly a Lovecraftian precedent here in Lumley's Cthonians as well as other miscellaneous stories. I was always partial to AD&D's Illithids, given the obvious Cthulhian influence, and intend to have a Runesword version of them comprise one of the DarcRelm's major civilizations, possibly as an incarnation of the Cthulhi*. Another obvious choice would be the Cthonians*.

Another reason I like the idea of this setting is that it would free me from having to tie my tomes directly to places/people/events in Eternia while still using it's technologies, skills and other other resources developed for it. Let me know what you think of this idea, if you are working on something similar, or if you just want to rant and rave about an imagination gone horribly awry.

Going to get inspiration/source material from the Dungeoneer's Survival Guide.

Need:
-wallpapers of cave scenes, underground rivers
-Cthulhi and Cthonian creature files
-background on races and areas
