Below is a step-by-step guide on using the Generic
Occult Text item in offering spells and research to those with the
Forbidden Knowledge spell skill.
-
Copy the item "The An Occult Text" into an encounter/creature.
-
Copy the new Dark Secret (the spell this book will contain) into
both the "On-UseInEncounter Generic Text" trigger and the "On-SkillUse
Forbidden Knowledge" trigger.
-
Open the "On-UseInEncounter Generic Text" trigger (located directly
below the book item). You can change the name of this trigger if you
like. It won't change the functionality of the triggers.
-
Areas that need to be edited are preceeded by the trigger comment
" ' EDIT HERE". The first place to edit in line 20: IfText
TriggerA.Name = "My Spell" Change the phrase "My Spell" to The name
of the Dark Secret you want this book to contain.
-
On line 48, you should change the dialog to what you'd like the player
to see if they have already learned the spell contained in this book.
-
On line 56 you'll want to be sure to update the line to include your
spell's name. When you cut the stock spell and pasted in your own
this line gets messed up.
-
You'll want to edit the dialog on line 60 to reflect both your book's
name and the name of the spell it contains. Of course, you can change
it to whatever you like - just keep in mind that this is the dialog
the player will see when they learn your new spell.
-
The "On-SkillUse Forbidden Knowledge" trigger is when the character
will receive if they do not have the Forbidden Knowledge spell skill
and opt to learn it. This is your playground. As there are different
schools of Occult learning, you can change the contents of this skill
to suit your needs. Note that any spell you paste directly under it
(as we did in step 2) will be what the character has availble immeadiatley
upon learning the skill. If you want the character to automatically
learn new spells as they raise their Forbidden Knowledge skill level
you'll have to paste the new spells into the "Post-RaiseSkill Give
Appropriate Spells" trigger and then modify that trigger to copy those
spells as appropriate. If not, simply delete the Post-RaiseSkill trigger.
-
If you want the character to have attained a certain skill level
of Forbidden Knowledge before being able to learn your new spell,
change the last block of code to this (you can copy/paste this in
if you like):
Label Pos.30
' copy Dark Secret into Forbidden Knowledge skill
ForEach TriggerB In CreatureNow
IfText TriggerB.Name Like "Forbidden Knowledge"
If TriggerB.SkillLevel >= Pos.2
' EDIT HERE
CopyTrigger "My Spell" Into CreatureNow
Put CreatureNow.Lunacy + Pos.1 Into CreatureNow.Lunacy
PlaySound "scary_laugh.wav"
' EDIT HERE
